Jim's Christmas Socks
Regia plus Cotton - buy it immediately! It's the best sock yarn I've ever used. Machine washable, non-felting, high moisture absorption. And the color is really beautiful. You can't see it in the photo but that's actually two shades of rich navy blue. I used #1 Addis and Cat Bordhi's Simple Sock pattern from Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles. I was knitting them on the sly until Jim looked up at me one evening and asked, "Are you keeping anything from me?" He caught me so off guard I confessed on the spot, "Yes! Here they are! I've been keeping them from you. Surprise! A pair of Christmas socks! Now you know."
I don't know what's scarier, that he knows me so well or that I cave in so easily.
This is Jim's third pair. The first were "too thick", the second were "too loose". I'm happy to report that these are just right. Which is a good thing too because they would have been his last.
Here's to my sweetie.
P.S. Cat has a great technique for eliminating the first row jog AND those two holes on either side of the first gusset row. You know which ones I'm talking about.

Hard Disk Failure
The longer you work with computers, the less likely you are to follow your own advice. SO BACK UP FOLKS! Think of it as the technical equivalent of doing a gauge swatch, except in knitting you can skip the gauge swatch and still have your yarn. I have tons of news!
First, I am happy to report that I have accepted a position as a middle school teacher. My days in corporate are over.
Second, in keeping with this um change in circumstances; I am learning the humble but all too necessary art of frugality. Which is a noble way of saying my fiber frenzies are over. Well, almost. There's Stitches Midwest in August. And then there's the Midwest Masters in October. And the guild is planning something in November. And I'm still waiting for the two pounds of raw fleece I ordered from a breeder who raises rare Longwool Leceisters. But that's it. I am putting together two gift wish lists for my family - one for fiber (THE FOLD DOES GIFT CERTIFICATES!) and the other for books on fiber (AMAZON DOES WISH LISTS!).
I'm trading in money for time. Time to live the life I want. Time to live the life I will no longer put off. Time to teach! I'm learning lesson planning now and I can't remember the last time I've been this challenged in corporate IT.
If my time at home has taught me anything, it's that my career is my life. MY ENTIRE LIFE! It includes everyone I love and everything that makes me feel alive. And I don't want to spend that life in a cubicle.
So here's to new beginnings. And at three weeks early and less than twelve pounds, I'd like you all to meet the newest addition to J4's flock.
