Snow Day

Here's another perk of being a school teacher. Yesterday was a snow day. A snow day! I felt just like Calvin in Calvin & Hobbes. No School! Just bounds of beautiful snow to play in. I snuggled deeper and slept some more. I swear I felt like a kid again. Literally, because it doesn't snow like it used to when I was a kid in the Bronx. When the three of us would run outside and play in the snow until it was time for hot chocolate. Puerto Rican hot chocolate. Which my sister-in-law very aptly described as a melted chocolate bar.

Adult reality hit hard. When the girls whimpered and I went downstairs to let them out, I couldn't open the door for all the snow. Deva loves a challenge but Claire was at a loss. Her small stature demands clear paths. The shovel was found, pitiful paths were made and now I have to add boots and gloves to my shopping list. No fiber, no fabric and the only skill I'll be adding this weekend is learning how to operate the snow blower.

P.S. It's not that Claire didn't try. It's just that her digging ability doesn't apply to snow. It only applies to the dirt underneath the snow.
